Biography

A trial lawyer’s practice, built on the New York defense bar.

Jerry L. Lynch is a New York trial attorney whose practice concentrates on construction and Labor Law cases, medical malpractice, commercial trucking and motor vehicle litigation, premises liability, products liability, property damage, and complex insurance coverage matters. He handles every phase of a case—pre-suit investigation, discovery, motion practice, depositions, trial, appeal, and alternative dispute resolution—bringing the same preparation to a settlement conference as to a verdict.

Before founding JL Legal, Mr. Lynch spent years as senior associate and trial counsel at prominent New York civil litigation firms, where his representation experience included matters involving major institutions and Fortune 500 companies—among them the Museum of Modern Art, NYU Langone Health, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Unilever, and PepsiCo—as well as leading financial institutions, real estate developers, and property managers throughout New York City.

In addition to litigation, Mr. Lynch drafts and negotiates construction contracts for owners and contractors, and regularly provides risk-transfer and coverage analyses, including the applicability of employer liability (“1B”) policies and additional-insured tenders—a technical area in which small drafting choices can shift seven-figure risk between parties.

Teaching & Service

A lawyer, a professor, a board officer.

Since 2018, Mr. Lynch has served as an Adjunct Professor at New York University, where he teaches Business Law, Business Ethics, and Legal Aspects of Healthcare. The courses draw on his academic background in health law and his day-to-day work in complex civil litigation—helping students see how doctrinal rules actually operate when they collide with contracts, institutions, and patients.

He also serves as an Executive Officer on the Board of Directors of Betances Health Center, a federally qualified health center that has provided primary and specialized medical care to New Yorkers regardless of ability to pay for more than fifty years. He has previously served as Co-Chair of the Human Rights Campaign’s Greater New York Federal Club and as a facilitator of the Johns Hopkins Medical-Legal Conference, where he led discussions on medical malpractice, informed consent, and standard-of-care issues.

Mr. Lynch is proficient in Mandarin Chinese and previously served as a Chinese Language Teaching Assistant at Duquesne University.

Teaching sharpens the practice. Every semester asks you to explain why the law is what it is—not just what to do next.
